The light rooms have a homely English feel with their cosy medley of furniture. From the living and dining rooms, French windows spill you onto the courtyard, scented with lavender on summer evenings. Beds are comfortable, an open fire, there are long country views from every window.

Our family holiday home for twenty years this gentle French village of Salvecques is a wonderful base from which to explore this area of France. Hardelot Plage is a 45-minute drive: its wide beaches, fringed with sand dunes and pines, have turned it into a popular sand-yachting centre, as is nearby Le Touquet. And there are over 100 kilometres of gorgeous sandy beaches on the Côte d’Opale.

Salvecques is a short drive from the golden sandy beaches of the Opal Coast and its Dennlys and Bagatelle and Aqualud Theme Parks. Only 5 minutes from St Omer’s world class Golf Course.

Explore the three colonnaded Grand Places at Arras, Lille and its amazing French shops, the canals of Brugge, Montreuil-Sur-Mers’ cobbled streets home of Les Miserables and even Paris, the Eiffel Tower, Disneyland and Parc Asterix.

Paris, Disneyland and Parc Asterix are 2/3 hours drive.
